How I got a Google PageRank 5 in 3 months

October 31, 2007

In the previous post, I talked about Tech Help Videos getting a PageRank 5 in 3 months time. (This blog is only 3 months old) And what is more interesting is that I got a PR 5 in one go. Strategic Internet Marketing and a few other people emailed me to write a post about how I did this. So here is it is. But I am no John Chow so I am not an expert but here is what I did.

1) Quality content – Having high quality content is very important. If you do not have good content, then you will not have much traffic. This rule goes especially to blogs or sites that have a special purpose or a commercial website or blog. Also, others may link your post or blog about it if they really liked your post. If you have people linking your blog or your posts, then this is a very good sign.

2) No banner and text link ads – I do not sell any text link ads nor any banner ads on this site. Of course most people would like to make some money with a blog, but it will hurt your user experience a bit. However, if you arrange your ads in a very logical and clever way, it will be fine. Another reason why I do not have any ads is because I am running on the free WordPress platform. They do not allow me to have ads but I contacted WordPress and they said that they are working on an upgrade package to allow ads. However, even if I am allow to embed ads, I will not use them.

3) Controlled - Tech Help Videos is a very controlled site. I do not have any crazy looking thing sticking out in the sidebar nor does it have any disturbing things in the articles.

4) Commenting – I actually do comment a lot on other blogs. Some blogs that I comment on are:

However, I am NOT a guy who just sits in front of computer and comment all day. About 10 minutes a day will be fine. From my traffic status reports, I get traffic from the sites I comment on everyday.

I have just read through this post, sitting here with a little down time after posting a new chapter in my online novel blog, I decided to do a search and try to find out some better ways to increase traffic to my blog. One point I noticed which had me stop and think was that you said: “However, even if I am allow to embed ads, I will not use them.” only to scroll down to the end of the post and see google ads. Were you referring to different ads other than google in this point? I also have adsense on my blog, figure it cant hurt to try and make some change from my work, though that is far from the reason I started blogging. Blogging has become an addiction of sorts for me, what started out as a way to share my new novel with the world, has spread into a collection of 5 blogs covering my areas of interest. The internet is such a great tool, if you can get through all the useless junk out there. I think back 13 years ago when it was still this widely unknown entity, and here we are now with so many people sharing and reaching out with their ideas to the world! Still would be nice to get that exposure, thank you for the post, very interesting read!

You see, the Google AdSense ads were not embedded by me. They were placed there by WordPress to generate them income, but I don’t get any. But thanks for pointing out the ads because I rarely see the ads.
And you are right about embedding just a couple of ads won’t hurt much. I prefer to just have a few premium sponsors than lots of third party ads. I have also got another personal blog which has ads on it, both private and third party ones. Here is the address – http://michaeltalk.iblogger.org/index/

Getting a pagerank 5 in 3 months is pretty awesome. I haven’t had that kind of luck, but I did go from pr3 to pr5 after almost a year.

I’ve noticed that I’m getting lots more traffic to my main site after I got my pagerank5. Before hand I was averaging about 150 visits a day, now I’m pushing just under 1000 visits a day. Blogging and commenting really does help to build traffic. Good post.

    thanks,

I agree that content is still king. Backlinks are a close second because it’s nearly impossible to get a PageRank without them. I’m still stuck at a 3 but hope to get to a 5 at some point.

Hi, You did not mention regular link building which is realy important for good seo as well as PR. I am running http://www.free-submission-directory.com. There you can submit Your website and boost traffic for free.

Anyway, I don’t think that is PR so important thing (!) and that PR have direct relation with TRAFFIC. For example, website theplatinumlist.com has about 5,000 unique visitors per month and PR 0!
Also my directory has about 20,000 unique visitors per month and PR only 1 (visits mostly from Google, Yahoo).
In the other hand, we have http://www.laser.ba which has quite high PR of 5 and only 300-400 visits per month so…you get the idea. It’s not all in PR.

@Sos – There can be many reasons. Some things to think about are: update your blog regularly with good content? Are there too many ads? Do a google search and you’ll find many articles.

And thanks everyone for the comments. Really appreciate it!!! :)

Hi, I found your site searching for information on pagerank, my google pagerank is 5 too. But I know nothing else about that. All teh sites want to explain algorityms and what-not, I just want to know what the ranks mean! I take it from your article that 5 is good. I just added an advertisement section to my blog that I am considering removing if it will affect my page rank!

Any info on pagerank would be much appreciated.
