Question: How do I change my Hotmail Alternate E-mail Address?

Solution: You change your Hotmail Alternate email address by doing the following:
1) Log into your Hotmail account.
2) Click ‘Options‘ which is located at the top right hand corner under the main Windows Live Menu bar. In the drop down menu, click on ‘More Options‘.
3) Under Manage your account, click on ‘View and Edit your personal information‘. (You can be prompted to re-enter your password)
4) In the box that has all your information listed, you should see the words, ‘Alternate Email address‘. Click on ‘Change
5) Enter the necessary information and details such as your password and your new alternate email address. Then, click ‘OK‘.

It is a good idea to have an alternate email address in case you forgot your password and things like that. I think when you signed up for a hotmail account, you were asked for one. But if you would like to remove it, you can do that in the Hotmail Options page.

hey my hotmail was hacked. Hotmail reset it for me thankfully but when i changed the alternate address and put a new one…it sent an email to the hacker’s alternate email stating “please confirm” before we change to the new one.

What can i do? Will i have to close my account?

    Good Day,

I have managed to retreive my hotmail account. There is one more thing thou. The alternate email address provided by the hacker could not be removed. Whenever I try to remove it it sends a link to his hotmail address only. I need to delete his hotmail alternate account from mine how can I do that?

The alternate email account saved by the hacker is spy_password11@hotmail.com

Please do help me remove this alternate email address as a final step and I thank you a million for your support.

    Regards,

Hello A hacker put in the alternate email address: boodagirl1995@yahoo.com

Please tell me how I can remove this. When I tried it said that it sent an email to boodagirl1995@yahoo.com which is the hackers email address.

I also had this problem, and after reading this forum and other forums/message boards and seeing the same result (all questions no good answers) I decided to create a solution. So far it has worked, and should work for everyone here. I had a Hotmail account that was hacked and similarly to those above, the hacker added an alternate email address (as well as changing several other profile features (i.e. birth date, sex, location, zip code, etc.)). It has only been two days now, but the following seems to be working:

In the Options -> More Options -> Account Details -> Account Security -> Manage -> Add New, under mobile phone (you must be able to receive text messages, or you will probably be charged to receive them, if you can’t receive them, I can’t guarantee this will work). Run through the additional necessary procedures to store the mobile phone as an additional verification contact.

Return to Account Security -> Manage -> Delete the hackers email address. Select the radio next to “Send a code to my mobile phone”. Enter this code once received on the mobile phone, and now the email address, as well as any other email addresses you chose will be deleted. Now change your password again and edit your profile information so that it is yours and not those that the hacker modified.

This should work because the hacker is sent an email stating that the address has been deleted and though it sends a link to help try to recover the account (I received this message as I deleted my alternate email address as well), they most likely don’t have enough information, nor do they care to spend the time or potentially get themselves caught in trying to verify they are you. Hopefully this works for you as it did for me. Sorry for figuring this out so late for some of you.

What a load of tosh! The email is sent to the invalid (or hackers) email address and nothing will confirm until you have accessed the invalid email account. Waste of time following B Matthew’s instructions. It beggars belief what some people can call a solution!

Here’s the correct way to do it:

In order for you to change your old alternate email address, you will need to remove it first. Below are the steps on how to remove you old alternate email address to your account, even if you do not have access to it and the capability to confirm the action:

    1. Sign in to your account using your Windows Live ID and password
    2. In the Account Security section, click Manage (beside security info).
    3. Click Delete (after alternate email).
    4. Click Mark them all for removal to continue.
    5. Click Mark for removal.

Please be informed that once password reset information has been marked for removal, you’ll have to wait for 30 days for it to be removed. If you have more than 1 password reset information in your account, you’ll have to wait for 6 months for all information to be removed.

This is so stupid… I changed employers, so my Live ID alternate email address is no longer accessible. I changed it to my current employer email address in Windows Live ID without issues and now I have to wait 30 days, before I gain access again to my account.
If I want access to support around this question, I need to logon using my Live ID, which works, but all I see is “we are not yet ready for you”. I have to wait the whole 30 days. A real catch 22 and in this case of inaccessible former alternate email addresses a real pain.
All questions around this matter on any forum of Microsoft are being locked with reference to links to get private help. But for that, you guessed it, you need access to your live ID… And all you see is “we are not yet ready for you”. Surely Microsoft should know that that is not very helpful and referring customers to support pages they can’t reach is rather stupid…

obviously like your web-site but you need to take a look at the spelling on quite a few
of your posts. Several of them are rife with
spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to tell
the truth however I will certainly come again again.
